Summary:A hand held device for the ozonation of a body of water comprising a handle, the handle assembly comprising a housing; and an electrical storage device disposed within the housing; an electrochemical cell, said cell receiving electrical energy from the electrical storage device when in use; and a support assembly holding the electrochemical cell, the support assembly being moveably connected to the handle assembly and moveable between a retracted position and an extended position, wherein in the retracted position the electrochemical cell is at least partially disposed within the housing and in the extended position the electrochemical cell is disposed outside of and a distance from the housing. The anode and cathode are both preferably formed of a boron-doped chemical vapor deposition diamond. There is preferably an amperometric conductivity sensor disposed on the support assembly such that it is above the electrochemical cell when in normal use. The support assembly is preferably connected by a hinge.
