Summary:An apparatus for controlling a flow of fluid, the apparatus comprises a body 20 and a control element 160 located at least partially within the body and configured to impart a rotation to the flow of fluid. The control element comprises an upper member 180; and a lower member positioned 182 downstream from the upper member and coupled to the upper member via a plurality of flow control elements 172, each flow control element comprising a curved deflection surface. The lower member is configured to receive a first portion of the fluid from the upper member and direct the first portion of the fluid out a first outlet 168 in an axial flowmanner. The plurality of flow control elements are configured to receive a second portion of the fluid from the upper member via a second outlet 169 and impart a rotation to the second portion of the fluid as the second portion of the fluid flows between the lower member and the body. The plurality of flow control elements may form channels extending along the exterior of the lower member and may be helically shaped. The control elements may be tapered or generally L-shaped.
