Summary:The bleed valve assembly 2 comprises a fastener 4 and a bleed plug 6. The fastener is configured to be received within a bore of an engine, the bore leading to a fluid chamber such as an engine coolant chamber. The fastener comprises a bleed bore 14 including an internal thread 16. The plug comprises a threaded portion 22, a passage 24 extending from a first end 20a of the plug, an engaging portion 38 at a second end 20b of the plug, and a side port 26 located between the threaded and engaging portion that is in fluid communication with the passage. The plug is configured to be received in the fastener such that the engaging portion selectively engages the fastener. When in an open position the engaging portion does not engage the fastener and fluid from the chamber can be bled through the plug via the passage and side port. A radial protrusion 34 provided between the engaging portion and the side port restricts a flow area for fluid being bled by the bleed plug during initial opening of the plug. An o-ring seal 28 may be provided also.
