Summary:A roller finger follower (RFF) 4 and a lash adjuster, eg a hydraulic lash adjuster 12, for an i.c. engine valve train are magnetically attracted to each other so as to hold them together during assembly of the engine. The lash adjuster 12 has a first end 12a to engage a roller finger follower (RFF) 4 and a second end 12b to engage an engine housing. The lash adjuster 12 may have a magnetic portion 20 near the interface with the RFF 4. The magnetic portion 20 may be a permanent or semi-permanent magnet made by applying an electro-magnet field to the end 12a of the lash adjuster or by passing a magnet over the area to be magnetised. A magnet or electromagnet may be provided as part of the lash adjuster. Alternatively the RFF may comprise a magnetic portion 18.
