Summary: | An implantable flow adjuster 20 includes proximal and distal supports which support a flow adjuster panel 26. The flow adjuster panel divides the lumen through the device into two sections 40,42, one of reducing cross-sectional area and the other of increasing cross-sectional area. The two sections cause, respectively, an increase in blood pressure and a decrease in blood pressure resulting in a pressure differential beyond the distal end of the device. This pressure differential can divert blood flow away from the neck (14, figure 1) of an aneurysm (12). The panel may have a transverse curvature which varies along its length, and it may contain longitudinal slots (figure 14) to accommodate deformation. The panel may be supported by rings 22,24 or by a mesh stent (310, figure 15). The flow adjuster may be made from a shape memory alloy. |
