Summary: | An electrical roadway apparatus 400 provides inductively coupled power to one or more vehicles. The apparatus includes drive unit modules 50 disposed along a peripheral edge of the roadway 20 and/or along a central reservation. Coil arrangements are coupled to the drive unit modules and implemented as cables 210 disposed in slots formed transversely across at least one lane of the roadway. The slots may be outwardly tapered with increasing depth into the roadway and filled with flexible polymeric plastics for retaining the cables within the slots (see fig. 4). The drive unit modules may be arranged end-on-end and coupled together 105. The cables may be arranged as a plurality of overlapping loops to provide continuous power transfer (see fig. 2A). The drive unit modules and/or the cables may be manufactured in factory premises remote from the roadway and transported to the roadway for installation. |
