Summary:A mobile device 152 may join a nearby call 116 in progress (eg. a P2P conference call) in an ad-hoc manner via a joining process in which permissions are exchanged with conference communication devices 108 via SIP messages facilitated by a communication server 120. A call-monitoring module 128 detects devices wishing to join calls in progress, and generates a fingerprint (eg. an audio sample) of the call to compare with a fingerprint taken from the user via an admission module 132. A match establishes that the user is within proximity of the call (eg. it sounds like they are in the same room as one of the callers), and is permitted to join accoding to parameters in a Current Call List 136. This allows users to record personal notes on their device during an in-progress call or conference. Video or other fingerprints (eg. a physical contact) may also be used to determine user proximity.
