Summary:An energy transfer system for a vehicle, a vehicle with an energy transfer system and a method of recovering deceleration energy of a vehicle. An energy transfer system 2 for a vehicle 1 with a vehicle chassis 6 is provided that comprises a hydraulic system 8 comprising at least one hydraulic motor/pump 9 and a hydraulic circuit 10 coupled with a hydraulic suspension system 7 coupled with the vehicle chassis 6. The hydraulic motor/pump 9 is operatively coupled with the hydraulic suspension system 7 and is operable as a pump (14 see fig 2) to pump hydraulic fluid into the hydraulic suspension system 7 to raise the vehicle chassis 6 from a first height to a second height. The hydraulic motor/pump 9 is operable as a motor 15 to lower the vehicle chassis 6 from the second height. The system recovers energy which would otherwise be lost during deceleration.
