Summary:Provided are a system, method, and sensor for reading data using a radio frequency (RF) field. The system may include a reader device structured to emit the RF field, and a sensor structured to receive the emitted RF field and re-radiate a signal to the reader device. The sensor may include a micro-engineered mechanical structure (MEMS) resonant element. The reader device is further structured to receive and process the signal to obtain an original sensor element frequency. In an exemplary embodiment, the sensor may include a self-resonant sensor element and no wired connections. In another embodiment, the sensor may include a non-self resonant element, wherein the reader includes a feedback amplifier. The sensor may be a miniature mechanical structure and/or made using MEMS techniques. In a further embodiment, the sensor may be powered by energy harvesting.
