Summary:A suction cleaner consists of a floor suction nozzle secured to a base portion of the cleaner and in fluid communication with a recovery tank. An accessory hose 638 is secured to a either the handle or the base portion of the suction clear, and is received within a holder 816. The holder has a sensor 841 for sensing the position of the accessory hose 638 within the holder 816. The function of the suction cleaner is controlled in response to the position of the accessory hose within the holder. Preferably the suction cleaner has a valve assembly for selectively blocking the airflow to the floor suction nozzle, the valve assembly being moved between a first position which at least partially blocks suction to the floor suction nozzle and a second position in which suction is permitted to the floor suction nozzle. The movement of the valve assembly being dictated by the sensed position of the accessory hose 638 in the holder 816. The cleaner also has a solution tank for supplying cleaning solution to the surface to be cleaned.
