Summary:A device 30 which reduces the drying time of plaster or other water containing porous buildings coatings, the device comprising, one or more sheets 31 of an adsorbent/ absorbent material in an elongate shape. The plurality of sheets are attached together along a first elongate side, in use the device is attached to a portion of the surface 10 to be coated such that when the surface is coated the coating 20 contacts a portion of the sheets allowing the sheets to hydrate by adsorbing water from the coating allowing the coating to solidify and dry. The sheets may be made from paper or tissue paper. The device may be attached to the surface by a nail or screw 32. The device may have a plurality of slits along a second elongate side to provide a comb-like structure
