Summary:A method to establish a reference pressure for a tool in a well uses a snorkel 24 to transfer fluid pressure from one location in the well to another location in the well. The reference pressure may be set by applying pressure in the well annulus from the surface. Snorkel 24 is in fluid communication with the backside of a piston in each valve 12, 14, 16. Hydraulic pressure in snorkel 24 provides a return force to each piston. The fluid pressure in snorkel 24 establishes a reference pressure against which downhole tools may be operated.
