Summary:A valvetrain for an internal combustion engine has a rocker arm assembly 118 which includes a fulcrum 120 with a plurality of pivot ball sockets 166 each associated with a flat rocker arm 100, 102, 104, 106 and a pivot ball 128 disposed between the fulcrum 120 and each rocker arm 100, 102, 104, 106. The fulcrum 120 extends through apertures 132 in the rocker arms 100, 102, 104, 106 and has a plurality of guide slots 160, each of the slots 160 having generally parallel opposing lateral surfaces 170 for receiving and guiding both sides of an associated rocker arm 100, 102, 104, 106 so the rocker arm 100, 102, 104, 106 pivots about the pivot ball 128 in a plane of the rocker arm 100, 102, 104, 106. To facilitate installation, an assembly plate (126,fig.1) is used to support the rocker arms above the fulcrum to maintain the pivot balls in their sockets.
