Summary: | The invention relates to the selection of receivers on seismic streamers for data acquisition during a marine seismic survey. This may involve towing a seismic streamer 4, 6 having receivers 10, 12; sensing inline skew of the streamer (caused by external forces such as winds, tides, ocean currents); and using sensed inline skew to select which receivers to use in seismic data acquisition. Selecting receivers may involve turning on, or using data from, spare or redundant receivers 12 and turning off or not using data from, other receivers 10 to maintain a spread in accordance with survey specifications. A skew detector for sensing inline skew may be included in a streamer position determination system such as acoustic ranging networks, Global positioning system (GNSS), or magnetic compasses. Two or more seismic streamers may be towed and receivers may be selected based on relative position of the receivers. |
