Summary:An improved process for chlorination is described wherein a solution of chlorinating agent and solution of sucrose-6-ester are mixed together by co-addition to a reaction vessel, the addition of both the reactants starting and completing substantially at the same time. The product of chlorinated sucrose is further extracted in organic solvents and deacylated to produce the high intensity sweetener product 4, 1', 6' trichlorogalactosucrose.
