Summary:In a signal pickup method of a video/audio recording and playing system, a recording length (X) and a tracing-back length (Y) are preset 302. An external signal is received and storing into a buffer 305 of the video/audio recording and playing system. A designated section of the external signal is automatically picked up from the buffer according to the recording length and the tracing-back length in response to a triggering operation 306 of a user. The system can include a hard disc for recording the video and for providing a circular buffer (50) using a time shift function. The system is also applicable to a computer system having a application program and capable of playing a TV program where the user interface (40) has virtual buttons.
