Summary:A Stirling engine with a regenerator 7 has an Oxygen getter 32 positioned in the hot space in the path of the inert working gas, to remove traces of oxygen from the gas and so prevent oxidation of the regenerator. The engine may also or alternatively have a filter 33 which absorbs particles which break off the regenerator due to oxidation. The filter may be made of PTFE and positioned at the cold end of the regenerator.
