Summary: | A portable communications handset unit 100, such as a portable radio or a mobile telephone, includes a memory 105 for storing an authentic user PIN (personal identification number) and a user interface 107 for entering a user entered PIN. The unit 100 also includes a PIN comparator 104 for comparing the user entered PIN with the authentic user PIN and produces a match signal when they match. The unit 100 also includes a battery 109 for providing electrical energy, a charging circuit operable when closed to allow the battery 109 to be charged by a battery charger, and an electrically operated control switch 113 that controls opening and closing of the charging circuit. The PIN comparator 104 is coupled to the control switch 113 for application of the match signal to provide operation of the control switch 113 to close the charging circuit. Thus charging of the battery 109 is allowed only by entry of a correct user PIN. |
