Summary: | A methanation reactor 400 has a reformate steam inlet 430 and outlet, and a rhodium-based catalyst 440 on a silica coated alumina support 420. Also disclosed is a device with a noble metal catalyst with an acidity increasing coating, promoting increased carbon monoxide removal rates from a reformate stream. Also disclosed is a device with a noble metal catalyst and a flowpath configured so that while operating at temperatures below 260 C, carbon monoxide selectivity is at least approximately 60 percent. Also disclosed is a method of purifying a methanol reformate stream comprising evaporating a mixture of fuel and oxygen in a reformer, and removing at least a portion of carbon monoxide in a catalyst methanation reactor, to which the reformer device is connected. The apparatus described may form part of a system which actively creates hydrogen fuel from a hydrocarbon source in a vehicle (fig.6). |
