Summary:An image-processing device is provided that comprises an input device (14) and an image-processing unit (18). The input device (14) inputs video signals of an original colour image. The image-processing unit (18) performs a predetermined image altering process on luminance components of the video signals. The luminance components, which are subjected to the image altering process, and colour-difference components of the video signals are combined. Thereby, video signals for an illustrational image are generated, in which the outlines of the image features are made bold and the number of colours is reduced with respect to the number of colours in the original colour image. The predetermined image altering processes may include, for example, filtering, edge enhancement or gradation reduction processes.
