Summary:The invention relates to an adapter (1) for an electrochemical gas sensor (2) with a housing (14) receiving an electrolyte (13), in which are arranged at least one measuring electrode (12) and a membrane (11) screening the measuring electrode (12) from a measuring gas and permeable to the measuring gas. The adapter (1) exhibits a gas-impermeable surface (15) running in parallel with and at a distance from the membrane (11), so that adapter (1) and membrane (11) form a flow gap (10) for the measuring gas delivered by means of a pump. The adapter (1) can be plugged on to the electrochemical sensor (2) at its outer edge (1 a). The measuring gas flows through a central opening (17), propagates radially outwards in the flow gap (10) and leaves it via the annular gap (16). (Fig. 4). This provides an increased measuring sensitivity of an electrochemical gas sensor (2).
