Summary:An antimicrobial liquid cleansing formulation comprises: (1) from 1 to 99 wt% of a surfactant system comprising one or more surfactants; (2) from 0.01 to 3.0 wt% of an acid and/or acid anhydride which buffers the pH of the composition in the range from 3.5 to 7; (3) from 0.01 to 10wt% of at least one phospholipid; and (4) up to 99 wt% of water. The pH of the composition is preferably in the range from 3.5 to 5.5. The acid may be a carboxylic acid or an inorganic acid. Typically, the formulation contains 60-90wt.% of water.
