Summary: | An optical image separation system 300 is connected to the confocal image output port 110 of a Nipkow disk type confocal scanner 100. The system is capable of detecting the light 7 returned from a sample 60 and emitted from the confocal image output port by separating the return light into different wavelength regions or into portions in the same wavelength region. The light can be separated by means of a dichroic mirror 30, which may be a prism mirror, diffraction grating, spectral prism, or a beam splitter and is projected onto two-dimensional sensors 10a, 10b. Barrier filters 20a, 20b can serve as stray light removing means. Multiple dichroic mirrors and and sensors may also be used in series (see Figs 9-10). |
