Summary: | A method of making a cutting insert with a hole for clamping to a tool holder wherein a superhard abrasive material 14 which may be diamond or boron nitride is sintered and simultaneously bonded to a sintered cemented carbide body 16 with a hole inside a container 11 under elevated temperature and pressure. The form of the hole is maintained during sintering by means of a plug 25 which may be coated in a different, separating material such as aluminium oxide. The plug may easily be removed after sintering and may also be coated with TiCN and hexagonal boron nitride. |
