Summary:A printing plate for flexographic or lithographic printing is made by coating an aluminium alloy or steel sheet with a polymer layer having an outer surface, coating the polymer layer with mineral or metal particles having an average particle size of less than about 30 microns, and with the polymer layer near its melting point, compressing the solid particles so that most of them are below the polymer layer outer surface. The solid particles are preferably alpha-alumina particles having an average size of 1-10 microns. The printing plate has improved wear resistance.
