Summary: | A method of constructing a balustrade along a staircase (1) comprises: (i) fitting a bottom rail (7), which is pre-morticed at industry-standard centres, to a staircase side rail (3) fitting the lower ends of pre-tenoned balusters (9) into the mortices (8) of the bottom rail (7) fitting a pre-morticed top rail onto the upper ends of the baluster (9) and fitting a handrail (11) to the top rail . The invention also includes both a staircase comprising such a balustrade, and also a handrail/newel post joint comprising a female fixing pad fitted to opposite ends of the handrail and engageable with a male bracket fitted to the newel posts. |
