Summary:In a machine for gauging the inner and outer diameters of a bottle opening comprising telescoping inner plug gauge and outer ring gauge (12,17, Fig 1) at the ends of respective tubes, relative displacement between the plug and ring gauge tubes is prevented as the gauges are displaced to a position between fully retracted and fully advanced positions by a pad 88 which engages a cap (54, Fig 1) on the upper end of the gauge under the influence of a compression spring 90.
