Summary:A lens moving apparatus, used in an optical pickup of, e.g. an optical recording/reproducing system, includes a moving assembly holding 11 an objective lens 11c and provided with a coil bobbin 12, elastic supporting devices 13a - d which support the moving assembly along the focusing dimension and the tracking dimension, focusing coils 12b and tracking coils 12c wound on the coil bobbin 12, and a magnetic circuit formed by a yoke 31 and a magnet 32. The center of gravity of the moving assembly is positioned so that the product of the distance from an effective section (12b - 1, Fig. 4) of the focusing coil to the center of gravity of the moving assembly and the force produced at the effective section is about equal to the product of the distance from a noneffective section (12b - 2, Fig. 4) of the focusing coil to the center of gravity of the moving assembly and the force produced at the noneffective section. Fixing section 14 is shown.
