Summary:An oxygen sensor with layered construction including an anode element comprising a flat metallic blade 16, anodic material 18, 20 contacting and narrower than the flat surface of the blade and wire 17 wrapping material 18, 20 and contacting the sides of the blade. A layer of electrolyte retaining insulator 22 covers the anode element and cathode element 24 covers the insulator. Anode element has a central flat metallic plate (16) with two narrower outer plates. The cathode element is uniformly compressed toward the anode along an elongate length by elongated support struts 40 held in place by elastic bands 42 and the sensor is enclosed in a housing 10. The anodic material may include cadmium and the electrolyte may be potassum hydroxide. The sensor may be used for measuring the oxygen permeability of films and membranes.
