Summary: | In optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus the angle between the optical axis 10 of the beam and the surface of the data carrier is detected, and a temperature adjusting device 17 effects a corresponding difference in temperature between its two surfaces whereby the surface of the data carrier is maintained level so as to be perpendicular to the optical axis of the beam. The mechanism for focusing the beam can be simplified to miniaturize the optical head and no mechanism is required to cause the optical head to oscillate so high-speed accessibility is obtained. Alternative embodiments are disclosed Fig 6; Fig 8 (cooling as well as heating elements); Fig 10 (Peltier effect s/c temperature adjusting device); Figs 12-20 (elements of temperature adjusting device disposed on wall of data carrier housing). Temperature adjusting device 17 can also be used for defrosting/demisting. |
