Summary: | In an optical fibre communication system, e.g. a LAN, nodes have to be coupled to the fibre cable for the supply of information to and extraction of information from the cable. To do this non-intrusive taps and used. Such a tap uses a corrugated reflective metallic, e.g. aluminium, grating (15) against which the optical fibre (10, 11) is pressed. Hence information can be fed in and extracted from the cable. Preferably the grating is curved round half the circumference of the fibre as this improves coupling in and out. |
