Summary:In sealing a package, using an adhesive sealing tape (24), a strip of tear strip material (30) is interposed between the tape and the surfaces being sealed. The tape and tear strip material are then severed by a blade (32) so as to provide a tab (38) of tape to which the tear strip material is adhered and which can be pulled to cause the tear strip material to sever the tape whereby the package can be opened. Apparatus for carrying out the method may be in the form of a hand-held device with an additional spool (29) of tear strip material which is fed beneath the sealing tape, or in the form of an automatic or semi-automatic sealing machine.
