Summary: | beta -D-galactosidase is used as tracer in an immunoenzyme cytochemical method for the identification of antigens in tissues. The enzyme tracer may be linked to the antigen via a specific binder e.g. an antibody specific to the antigen and the antigen can then be revealed by action of the enzyme tracer on a chromogenic substrate which converts to an insoluble coloured product. A reagent kit for use in the method comprises (1) an antibody specific to the antigen, the tracer enzyme which can be in the form of a conjugate and (2) the chromogenic substrate. A universal reagent comprises the chromogenic substrate and a beta -D-galactosidase conjugated anti-antibody. The use of beta -D- galactosidase has many advantages over the use of the conventional peroxidases. |
