Summary: | 12,517. Holliday, B., and Holliday, J. Aug. 31. Movable-abutment type; working-fluid supply. -The radially sliding abutments 6 are carried by a rotor 5 arranged between two elliptical stator members 1, 2. Each abutment comprises two parts 6, 7 pressed apart by springs 8, the inner part bearing on the member 2, and the outer part having a roller 20 guided by a groove in the member 1. The charge is admitted through the fixed hollow shaft 4 to the working chambers 9 formed within the rotor 5, where the gases are first compressed and, after ignition at the point A, expanded, finally exhausting through another compartment of the shaft 4. To reverse the engine, the shaft 4 and the cam 2 are turned through 180 degrees. |
