Summary: | 15,409. Hardcastle, J. H. July 4. Projectiles.-Relates to projectiles for use in smooth - bore guns and guns having straight rifling, and consists in so constructing the projectile that the centre of gravity is situated at a distance of 0À28 or less of the total length of the projectile from the nose. The desired result may be attained by suitably shaping the projectile, as shown in Fig. 3, or by building up the projectile of material having different specific gravities, or by combining both methods, as shown in Fig. 1, in which the parts 8, 9, 10 are, respectively, of lead, brass, and aluminium, and the shape is of stream-line form. A driving- ring 13 and guiding-tail are provided. The tail-piece may be a disk or may be cup-shaped, |
