Summary:1372. Pearson, G. H. Jan. 17. Compensating for wear.-In a slack-adjuster for railway-vehicle brakes, of the kind in which a ratchet-wheel or rack is actuated by a pawl d carried by a lever e and held by an anchoring- pawl f which is slotted to allow sufficient movement on its pivot, means are provided for preventing such pawl from being accidentally shaken out of the ratchet-wheel. In the form shown, the means comprises a pin k, which normally rests on the top of the pawl f, but engages a recess f to allow the pawl to slip over a tooth when sufficient wear occurs to bring the pivot g to the rear end of the slot f In modifications, the pin k is at the underside of the tail of the pawl, or the slot is widened at its rear end and engages a pivot of rectangular section.
