Summary: | 5967. Namekawa, K., Miyazawa, J., Miyabara, K., and Emura, S. March 19, 1910, [Convention date]. Zinc, depositing; electrodes. - Lead anodes used in the deposition of thick non-porous zinc from zinc-sulphate solution are freed from peroxide and persulphate by causing them to act temporarily as cathodes, the lead compounds being converted into oxide, which falls off. The cathodes may be removed from the zincdepositing vat during this operation, or the used anodes may be replaced by fresh ones and treated in a separate vat. In the former case, switches D, E, M enable first one lot and then the remainder of the anodes A to be connected as cathodes. In order to prevent deposition of spongy zinc, the electrolyte contains a liquid made by heating sugar, starch, sea-weed, or a similar substance nearly to carbonization, and extracting it with water. |
