Summary:23,332. Sykes, G. H. Oct. 20. Clutches; starting and stopping gear.-Relates to a trip-pawl mechanism, similar to that described in Specification No. 12,751, A.D. 1904, [Abridgment Class Railway signals &c.], for electromagneticallyoperated signals or other apparatus which will drive in either position of the pawl, if not continuously tripped. The piece 24 and the driving- wheel 6 are mounted to rotate independently about a common axis. A pin 22, mounted in the piece 24, carries a lever 9, and a pawl B, adapted to engage pins 19, 19 on the wheel. The lever 9 is free to swing between stops 32 unless obstructed by the pin 12, which is movable axially. When the lever is thus held in either of its two positions, shown in full and dotted lines, the pawl B engages one of the pins 19, 19, and the wheel drives the piece 24, but if the pin 12 is withdrawn, the pins 19, 19, being placed sufficiently far apart to avoid simultaneous engagement, only rock the lever in passing. Additional pairs of pins as 19, 19 may be employed and the piece 24 may be the driver, rotating in the opposite direction to the arrow. It is stated that the invention may be applied to parts moving in straight lines.
