On a shaft A are mounted a number of toothed wheels a a , a , a in gear with wheels b , b , b , b , loosely mounted ona. countershaft B and formed integral with pulleys c , c , c , c . The toothed wheels are surrounded by a casing or oiling-box, carrying rollers e for supporting the belt and facilitating its movement from one pulley to another. By altering the position of the belt on the pulleys c etc.; the speed is changed. A pulley f on the shaft B serves as a loose pulley. The shaft A may act either as the driving or the driven shaft.
