Summary:14,508. Weinwurm, S. July 16. Photo-mechanical printing. - Etched printing- plates requiring no packing are obtained by first taking two photographs, one with and one without the use of a prism or reversing-device, of the original picture with register marks made on the edge, then transferring these photographs one to the face and one to the back of the block in registering positions, and etching the face first, and then the back, making the latter more effective in light and shade. The contrast of light and shade may be obtained in the second photographic print by suitable shuttering and strengthening and weakening of the negative. In another method, the same photograph is transferred to both sides of the plate, only the transfer negative for the back is drawn straight off on to it, and that for the front is drawn off the glass plate and turned over to register.
