Summary:20,226. Nelson, W. H. Sept. 2. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to brazeless joints for velocipede and other vehicle frames such as motor vehicles. Fig. 2 shows the connection of the top tube and lug of a bicycle frame. The interior of the lug a and the end of the tube bare slightly conical, and the tube is screwed at b , the end of the lug a being screwed with an opposite screw thread. A collar c with two corresponding screw threads is first passed over the conical portion of the tube, which is inserted in the lug, and the whole is secured together by the collar engaging with the screw threads on the lug and tube. The end of the interior of the lug and the tube immediately below the thread b may be milled so as to engage together, and the end of the tube may be fluted if desired. Modifications are described, in one of which a liner which is expanded into the end of the tube may be used, and in others instead of using a thread on the tube a shoulder may be formed thereon and a corresponding flange in the collar may engage therewith. A depression or projection in the tube and lug may replace the milled portions.
