Summary:1299258 Preparing trishydroxymethyl phosphine oxide KNAPSACK AG 10 June 1970 [16 June 1969] 28127/70 Heading C2P Trishydroxymethyl phosphine oxide is obtained by reacting one mol of trishydroxymethyl phosphine with at least one mol water in contact with between 0À1 and 10 weight per cent of formaldehyde as catalyst, based on the weight of the phosphine, at a temperature between 60 and 200‹ C. The formaldehyde may be used either as an aqueous solution or in the form of paraformaldehyde and the reaction is preferably effected in a pressure resistant vessel at between 100 and 150‹ C. using between 1 and 20 mols water and between 1 and 5 weight per cent of formaldehyde as catalyst.
