Summary:1281210 Measuring temperature electrically COMPUTER DIODE CORP 9 Oct 1969 49734/69 Heading G1N A disposable, clinical thermometer comprises a case 11 bearing a tube 85 having an end closed in a plug 87 in which is embedded a multijunction diode 28 which is in thermal communication, in use, with a probe 20 consisting in slug 22 gripped in an end of a plastics tube 19. The diode is connected in a bridge circuit 59 from which the output is indicated at 70 and represents the temperature of a body cavity of a patient in which the probe is inserted for 1 to 5 minutes prior to being placed in juxtaposition with the diode. In an alternative embodiment, Fig.10 (not shown), the plastics tubing of the probe includes a rounded tip (104) covering the slug which latter includes a recess (103) for a thermally conducting grease. An alternative circuit arrangement, Fig. 12 (not shown), includes a further diode (66) in the bridge for ambient temperature compensation which is arranged in the probe as illustrated in Figs. 11, 11a (not shown). When the temperature of the probe has been read it is thrown away.
