Summary:1,270,100. Cable terminations. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 11 Dec., 1969 [12 Dec., 1968], No. 59097/68. Heading H2E. A mineral insulated cable 11 having a P.V.C. or other plastics material covering 15 is terminated by cutting back the covering 15, cutting back the metal sheath 14 and removing the mineral insulation to expose the cable conductors 12. A polyethylene sleeve 1 is applied to the end of the cable, the tapered part 4 being cut at the point marked on its outside indicating the bore as being that of the present cable, the sleeve 1 making a seal fit with the covering 15. Coloured insulating sleeves 16 are applied to the conductors 12 and an epoxy casting resin 17 is put into the mould formed by sleeve 1. An earthing conductor may be attached to the metal sheath 14 by soldering, brazing, or with a metal ring having radially extending folds which are crimped after the ring is applied over the sheath and earthing conductor. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the sealing compound is held within a metal pot (30) within the sleeve 1 the pot being sealed by a cap (32) to which the earthing conductor (28) is attached. The end of the pot is swaged on to the rim of the cap and the end of the sleeve is swaged on to the rim of the pot.
