Summary:1,249,766. Sheathed resistance heating elemerits. BACKER ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. it June, 1970, No. 29209/70. Heading H5H. A plurality of metal sheathed heating elements is fitted in an outer metallic sheath 2 of flattened tubular cross-section which is subsequently pressed into intimate contact with the inner sheaths 5. This further flattening is effected by passing the assembled element 1 between a pair of plain rolls or pressing dies, (not shown) Fig. 2, or by passing it between ridged rollers or dies, (not shown), the ridges of which are spaced by the outside diameter of the inner sheaths 5, Fig. 5. The finished element 1 or 1A is used for liquid, solid or gas heating. The lengths of internal resistance wire 3 are connected in series or in parallel, or have separate terminals for connection separately or together to the supply to provide different levels of heat output.
