Summary:1,243,060. Optically brightened polymer compositions. KODAK Ltd. 10 July, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 24867/68. Headings C3P and C3R. [Also in Divisions C2 and G2] A polymer composition comprises an optically brightened polymer containing a compound of the formula wherein R1 and R2 are each a polycyclic aromatic nucleus or a heterocyclic nucleus, L is a phenylene and n is 0 or 1. Specified polymers are polyolefins, polyesters, polysulphones, polyurethanes, polycarbonates, cellulose esters, polyamides, polyacrylates and polymethacrylates. An example is given in which a polyethylene terephthalate, a polysulphone, a polycarbonate, a polypropylene, a polyacrylate and a copolymer of styrene, vinyl chloride and ethylene is brightened and protected from the effects of U.V. radiation.
