In a self-aligning bearing an outer member comprises an outer ring formed of halves 11, 111 and an inner ring formed of halves 51, 511; the joints of the outer ring and the joints of the inner ring being offset by 90 degrees. The outer ring and inner ring are connected together by caulking, the outer ring having grooves 8 formed in its end faces to receive the caulked material therein. In assembling the bearing an inner member 3 has the inner ring halves 51, 511 positioned therearound and the latter then has the outer ring halves 11, 111 positioned therearound, the inner and outer rings of the outer member are then calked together.
