Summary:1,194,740. Disc brakes. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELECTRISKA A.B. 13 Nov., 1967 [14 Nov., 1966], No. 51434/67. Heading F2E. In a disc brake having a rotatable disc 5 provided with friction pads 8 axially movable in holes through the disc and positioned between two non-rotatable brake discs 1, 2 at least one of the brake discs 2 is axially movable between a position in which the friction pads 8 engage the brake discs 1, 2 to a second position in which the rotatable disc 5 is released from the brake discs 1, 2 and the holes and/or friction pads are shaped so that in the released condition the friction pads can tilt in their holes such that the braking surfaces of the friction pads form an acute angle with the braking surfaces of the brake discs 1, 2. The tilting may be obtained by having cylindrical friction pads 8 as shown mounted in holes which have conically directed walls. Alternatively the holes may be cylindrical and the friction pads can be in the form of truncated cones. To apply the brake the disc 2 is applied by springs 3 by de-energizing the electromagnet 4 which causes the friction pads to contact the discs 1, 2.
