Summary:1,187,204. Magnetic marking of containers. COURTAULDS Ltd. 31 March, 1967 [1 April, 1966], No. 14447/66. Heading B8D. A paint can, or a tin plate blank for making the can is marked by one or more magnetic spots or bars in register with the printed label (preferably during printing) and the mark is subsequently detected to position the can for the addition of further information, e.g. type and colour of paint, in register with the existing label. Several magnetic spots may be used to give information as to the size or type of can or subsequent treatment. The magnetizing and detecting apparatus may use conventional tape-recorder heads.
