Summary:1,182,181. Dividing by a single blade. CRABTREE INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 19 March, 1968 [6 Jan., 1967], No. 829/67. Heading B3W. [Also in Division D1] A yarn or wire cutter having a base 2 and a cover 17 through which a running yarn 21 can be threaded comprises a cutter blade and preferably two cutter blades 9, 10 movably mounted, e.g., on an arm 4 pivoted at 3. Yarn displacement means such as arms 12 arranged one on each side of arm 4 (see also Figs. 2a, 3, not shown) and pivoted about the axis 3 are associated with the blade, e.g. by means of a spring 14 pulling the arms 12 into engagement with stops 11 mounted on arm 4 and can displace the yarn and grip it against abutment means 16. In operation, control means such as a solenoid 7 connected to arm 4 by a link moves the blades in a cutting direction; thus the arms 12 displace the yarn and grip it against the abutment 16 whereupon it is cut by the blades 9, 10; the cut ends of the yarn still being held. The cutter is described as being used in a draw-twister, the cutter being positioned before the first drawing rollers and operated, e.g. by a yarn detector arranged after the second draw rollers. An adjustable time delay mechanism may be provided to prevent the detector becoming active before the break is repaired. Other yarn detectors which may be provided are:-a transducer type picking up the vibrations of a guide caused by the yarn running through; a feeler bearing on one of the drawing rollers such that when the yarn breaks and an end wraps on the roller, the feeler is lifted to actuate a micro-switch; a photo-electric type sensor. The cutting devices at a number of stations may be linked so that the yarns may be cut in swift succession in readiness for doffing.
